Who are our volunteers?
Volunteers are members from our communities who donate their time and experience to support 2SLGBTQ young people at SOY with meeting their needs and achieving their goals. In addition to being critical to our group and personal mentorship programs, volunteers support SOY during our events and for the SOY Bowlathon.
SOY special events
Fruit Loopz, BQY stage, the Freedom Dance, outings and more
Volunteers for SOY events help bring to life the affirming events that SOY organizes throughout the year. Tasks include promotion, assisting with event planning, setting up, and helping to coordinate and run the events. Enthusiasm, confidence, communication skills, creativity, problem-solving skills and teamwork are essential. A screening process is involved, and involvement varies depending on the event and your level of interest and availability.

Bowlathon
Our annual Bowlathon is SOY’s primary and sustaining fundraiser. Every year, volunteers raise money with their teams and join us for bowling, costumes, community and fun. You can support the Bowlathon as a volunteer by:
- Forming or joining a team: get together with some friends and form a team of up to 8 bowlers. Then, start fundraising! Each team aims to raise $1,000 in pledges.
- Sponsoring youth bowlers: every year, we reserve lanes at the Bowlathon for SOY youth to participate in the event. If you are unable to attend the Bowlathon in person, sponsoring a youth team is a great way to support the event!
- Sharing the invitation: invite your friends and colleagues to join the fun by sharing this event.
- Helping us get great prize items: each year several theme-based prizes are given out to the bowling teams. Help us a find a few fun donations!
